Engine 374

VANCOUVER

British Columbia, Canada

May 23, 1887 was a great day for Vancouver when CPR locomotive Engine 374 pulled the first transcontinental train into the city, and thus completed one of the great engineering feats of the century, linking the new nation of Canada from coast to coast. After years of sitting at Kits Park suffering much neglect and deterioration it was restored to its former glory for Expo 86 with funds raised by the selling of "name" bricks. it stands now in the heart of the city, in a new glass pavilion, built in cooperation of the Vancouver Parks Board and Vancouver Central Lions Club. This pavilion, open to the public, is part of the Roundhouse Community Centre serving the False Creek North - Yaletown community.

These images were taken on the May 23, 2000 birthday celebration when Engine 374 was moved out (a rare instance) for open air public viewing.
