Heritage is a concept interpreted in various ways depending on the context in which it is used. It can be personal and subjective or bureaucratic and objective. For some it is files composed of details to be kept in other files or even to be used to generate more files. In others passions are awakened when "heritage" is mentioned since there is a "romantic" connotation to it, evoking history, social and cultural issues, memories of childhood days, stories heard from family elders and other personal or group perspectives.
This website is an accumulation of specific projects related to cataloguing, in a visual manner, the structures in Vancouver and the Lower Mainland that have been acknowledged by various levels of government as having heritage value. As well non official collections, such as neighborhoods, schools, churches, architectural styles and others that are no less worthy of attention and celebration will also be featured.
As time goes on more information will be added to all of the pages dealing with different aspects (culture, history, architecture, technical data, resources, museums, associations, societies...) that will make the viewing experience more enjoyable.
Enjoy your visit. Suggestions, comments are always welcome.
